Importing email from any IMAP service

SlickAlpha mailspaces support importing email through IMAP protocol with SSL encrypted connection. Follow these four simple steps and import email to your SlickAlpha mailbox.

1. Test email host discovery using IMAP analyzer

  1. Visit our free IMAP analyzer tool and enter the source email address from which you wish to migrate your email from.
  2. If host checks succeed, you can skip to Step 3. If not follow next step to setup manual discovery for your email domain. If your email host is a free email service, the host address could be obtained from ISPDB curated by Mozilla.

2. Setup SRV records for IMAP access

  1. If you know your email IMAP/host address, you can manually enable IMAP discovery using a DNS SRV record. Add following SRV record on your domain registrar or DNS management platform.

    Type: SRV
    Name: _imaps._tcp
Data: imap.example.com (replace with your email providers host/IMAP address)
    Priority: 0
    Weight: 50
Port: 993 (or your email providers IMAP SSL port)
    TTL: 600
  2. If you are using SlickAlpha DNS, read our documentation on adding a DNS record. For 3rd party DNS services, please check their help pages for adding DNS SRV records.
  3. Verify DNS record propagation using our DNS Lookup tool. DNS propagation may take upto 24 hours.

3. Validate source login using IMAP analyzer

  1. After validating your email domain for IMAP discovery, visit our IMAP analyzer tool once again and analyze using both email address and password. Entering password will allow the analyzer tool to log into your mailhost using an IMAP connection.
  2. If your credentials are validated successfully, Mailbox login test should be marked as pass. You can now use these credentials to import email to SlickAlpha mailbox.
